What to Expect

Daily Care

All animals in our care receive individual care from our Pet Lodge team.

Each pet will have their own kennel. Household pets may stay together if it is requested and the animals get along. It is not recommended that a new household member stay in the same kennel as another pet.

Dogs are taken outside several times a day.  Dogs will be in our large outdoor kennel for 15-30 minutes.  Much of this will depend on the weather and temperature.  Cats are given time to explore the cat area and to stretch their legs too. If there are any special requests or medications we ask them to be made known to our Pet Lodge team.  Requests in writing are especially appreciated.

All kennels of our Boarders are cleaned out several times a day.  We make every attempt to clean a kennel as soon as it is soiled.  Kennels are scrubbed with a soapy solution and then rinsed thoroughly.  The kennels are disinfected, rinsed and dried.  All bedding is washed after the animal is done using the bedding or if it becomes soiled.

All feeding dishes are thoroughly washed, sanitized, and rinsed.

Questions

We appreciate the trust you put in Woodmoor Veterinary Hospital and Pet Lodge to care for your pet.  We understand that boarding your pet may be emotionally difficult for you.  We also understand that some pets adapt easier and quicker than other pets to new surroundings.  We make every attempt to make sure that each pet receives individual affection from the Pet Lodge team.

The general health of your pet is routinely monitored and notated by observing: appetite, mood, urine frequency, bowel movements, and general appearance of the pet.  If anything becomes out of the ordinary for your pet it is notated in the record and your pet will receive an exam by the doctor.  If medications or any other form of treatment need to be applied to the daily care of your pet, then it will be done at the discretion of the doctor. (Please review Boarding Agreement)  If you would like us to attempt to contact you if your pet becomes ill, then please indicate this to the Pet Lodge team.

Some medical conditions which may occur are:

  • Coughing
  • Diarrhea
  • Not eating
  • Depression

For each case, the doctor will exam your pet. In the situation of coughing, diarrhea, or other condition, medication may be prescribed. I f it is a situation of not eating and depression, the doctor will assess your pet and determine if medication is needed or if it is likely that your pet misses being at home.  It is not uncommon for some animals to take a few days to adjust to being in a new environment.  For some, the change in environment is more stressful to them then to others.  Diarrhea and not eating are the most common conditions we may see, likely due to stress.  Try not to worry, we keep a close eye on everyone and keep the doctor and technicians updated on progress or concerns.
